Each year, communities all across Canada celebrate National Volunteer Week, which normally takes place the third week of April. The primary purpose of this specially designated week is to thank and honour people who donate their time to help others by supporting the causes in which they believe. Volunteer Week also serves to reinforce the human values that volunteering represents and increases awareness of the vital importance of volunteerism to our communities.

Provincial Volunteer Week - April 14 to April 20, 2024

Annually, the Province of Nova Scotia recognizes one outstanding volunteer from every Nova Scotia municipality to receive the “Provincial Volunteer Award”. Each year, the Town of Pictou calls for nominations from the community for a Volunteer of the Year. This award is given to a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to the Town of Pictou. We are requesting your assistance in helping select the name of a person to receive this award for the Town of Pictou. If you are aware of an outstanding volunteer who is a resident of the Town of Pictou, please submit their name to Pictou Recreation and Parks by March 20, 2024. There will be an Awards Ceremony organized by the Province of Nova Scotia in September where recipients are recognized for their valuable contributions to their communities. As well, the Town of Pictou will host a local reception recognizing volunteers, details will be finalized near April.

The Town also has a Youth Leadership Award for 2024. This award recognizes and celebrations youth who go the extra mile in support of our community. The award is for youth up to age 22. Anyone can nominate a youth that demonstrates community spirit and inspires other youth to be involved. Nomination form below.
