Did You Know?...You Can Access the Library Online

All the library services online are free - from downloadable or streaming eBooks, eAudiobooks & eMagazines for all ages (Tumblebooks to OverDrive, and RB Digital), to language learning programs, and a few other information/database sources and some new services coming soon! These online services do require a library card to access (your library card # + a passcode)... and can be under Collections, Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library.

If you need a free library card, please call/text the library, at 902-759-2310. Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 3 pm.

There is a lot of other informational resources on our webpage, under Subject Resources, including the Health & Wellness section. Included, we do have access to the digital copy of all/most of the NSHA pamphlets too (in the regular library collection, online), Health & Wellness Resources

The bags contain items that can be used if an individual is overwhelmed by their environment & need a quiet activity. Three bags available to borrow: The Visual Bag, The Sensory Bag or the Fidget Bag

Play Packs

Playing + Reading = Learning!

Play Packs are kits with books & play equipment (skipping ropes, balls, scarves, a rubber chicken & more!) available to borrow with your free library card from the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library, in partnership with Active Pictou County. This initiative is made possible with Community Wellness Grants from the Pictou Central/East, Pictou West, the North Shore Area and the Antigonish Town & County Community Health Boards. To learn more, please contact your local library.

Light Therapy Lamps

Light Therapy boxes, also called SAD lamps; use fluorescent lights to mimic the full-spectrum sunlight you would experience outside on a bright spring day. The lamps are free for patrons to use within our library branches.

Computer Training

Pictou Library now has a volunteer to help you with One on One Computer Training:

Microsoft Office

A tutorial on how to use it. Specifics on toolbars and how they can benefit a presentation. PowerPoint and Word basics. Using Excel to make spreadsheets. How to set up a presentation for school, work, etc. and any unanswered questions about Office 365.

Email

How to compose, view and send emails to any person on all platforms or answer questions you might have.

Social Media

Lessons and demonstrations include all modern social media forms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and any others that you might have interest in or need general help with.

Online Streaming

Includes but is not limited to, help with watching videos online and a rundown on what websites to use and other sites to avoid

Photoshop

Basic help with this program depends on what you would like to learn. Tutorials on layering, patching and pasting photos to produce the unique image you want to create.

Pictou Public Library is located upstairs in the Town of Pictou Municipal Building and is one of seven branches in our Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library. The Library offers a full range of free services and access to the resources of all Nova Scotia public libraries.

Pictou Library is also a Community Access Program (C@P on Facebook). Free public access to the Internet is available through our C@P site computer terminals and Wireless Hotspot.

Library programs offered in the Pictou Library are free and our Program Room is available to non-profit groups for meetings or information sessions. For further information call the Library at 902-485-5021.

We also welcome suggestions of programs that you would like to see offered in the Pictou Library.

Fun Fit Pass @ Library!

DID YOU KNOW: that you can sign out the following bike equipment from the Pictou Library: bike locks, tire pump, allen-key tune-up kit.

Arts are for Everyone

The deCoste Centre has partnered with the Pictou Antigonish Regional Library network to create a program where library patrons can borrow a pass that can be exchanged for complimentary tickets. This is a very effective and discreet way to provide access to community members with limited ability to pay.
