The Town of Pictou has provided responsible government for 150 years. Government exists to serve the needs and interests of its citizens. The Town is governed by Town Council; consisting of the Mayor and four councillors-at-large. All members of Council are elected officials.
The Mayor provides political leadership, viewing the activities and operations of the Town as a whole. Other responsibilities of the Mayor include ceremonial functions, public relations and ambassador for the Town.
The goal of Council is to lead the system of government, set policies and strategic direction, make major decisions impacting Pictou, articulates a path moving forward and plans broadly. All of these strategic plans are then funneled to the CAO who will find ways to achieve Council’s goals and advise Council on these decisions.
